Maritime digital identity platform LEDGID has officially launched to the global shipping market at Posidonia 2026, pairing its debut with two initiatives aimed at placing seafarers at the centre of the industry's digital transformation. The company announced it has become the first signatory to BIMCO's Seafarer Digital Certificate Charter (SDCC) while also naming The Mission to Seafarers as its official welfare partner. LEDGID is positioning itself as a neutral digital trust platform designed to allow verified identity, qualifications and compliance records to move with seafarers throughout their careers, rather than remaining locked within individual employers or systems. The platform provides seafarers with a single digital profile containing certifications, sea service records and compliance documentation that can be reused across employers, vessels and jurisdictions. The BIMCO-led SDCC aims to establish common standards for the digital issuance, verification and portability of seafarer certificates. The charter focuses on interoperability, data integrity and seafarer ownership of professional records. Henning Davies, co-founder and chief executive of LEDGID, described the agreement as an important milestone for the sector. “Maritime needs shared approaches to digital trust, not more fragmentation,” Davies said. “Seafarers want tools, information and opportunities that help them thrive throughout their careers,” Bailey said. “This initiative helps them take greater ownership of their professional identity while keeping digital innovation grounded in the realities of life at sea.” LEDGID was founded by maritime technology veterans Peter Schellenberger, Henning Davies and former Inmarsat Maritime president Ronald Spithout. The company is demonstrating its platform throughout Posidonia week in Athens, with further port-based welfare and digital identity initiatives planned later this year.
