DGMA India and LEDGID Advance Cooperation on Digital Trust for Seafarers Hamburg, Germany – SMM 2026 LEDGID is pleased to mark an important step forward in its engagement in India – the second largest seafarers supplying nation in the world. Towards this end, LEDGID is now in collaboration with the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA), Government of India regarding the validation of the LEDGID platform on a Proof of Concept basis, which will be focused on digital identity, verification and trusted maritime information exchange. For LEDGID, the engagement is particularly meaningful. As a young maritime technology company, the opportunity to work with the DGMA reflects a shared interest in how neutral and interoperable digital infrastructure can support seafarers, while fully respecting the statutory role, authority and control of the official records held by the DGMA as the Indian National Maritime Administration. Under the framework, both organisations will explore a ring-fenced/sandbox approach towards digital identity confirmation, verification of certificates and professional records, and secure, consent-based information sharing that may provide valuable insights for future endeavours in this field. LEDGID was created around a simple principle: maritime professionals (primarily seafarers) identities, qualifications, records and achievements should remain connected to the individuals throughout their career, across employers, vessels, training providers and national borders. The wider ambition shared across the industry is to continue improving the acceptance and recognition of trusted digital records and digital certification, reducing reliance on fragmented and paper-based processes, while preserving regulatory safeguards, seamlessly across the board and accessible on the go, supplemented by very robust cyber-security cover. Henning Davies, CEO of LEDGID, said: “We are extremely grateful for the openness and trust shown to LEDGID by DGMA. For a young company with an ambitious vision, the opportunity to explore these questions together with one of the world’s most premier maritime administrations is both a privilege and a responsibility.” “Our role is not to replace the organisations that already hold authority and trusted information, but to help make that trust more portable and useful to the maritime professional. Ultimately, we want to support individuals in taking greater ownership of their identity, career and compliance journey across a global maritime career.” About LEDGID LEDGID is a neutral maritime digital identity and trust platform designed around the individual maritime professional, enabling identity, qualifications, records and achievements to remain connected, portable and reusable throughout a maritime career.
