LEDGID unveils portable seafarer identity platform
Maritime technology company LEDGID has launched its seafarer service at SMM in Hamburg, giving crews a portable digital profile designed to follow them between employers. The platform allows seafarers to store certificates, sea time, training records, achievements, medical information and emergency details in one place, alongside a CV builder, job board and compliance tools. LEDGID’s main pitch is ownership. The profile belongs to the seafarer, while employers and agencies only see information the individual chooses to share. Each verification is recorded once as an auditable event and can then be reused across different employers and service providers. “We have spent a long time telling people what this would look like. Now they can use it,” said chief executive and co-founder Henning Davies. LEDGID has also launched Enterprise Shield, aimed at integrating verified crew data into operator systems without requiring companies to surrender control of their own platforms. Two major operators are already running proof-of-concept projects covering verified onboarding and crew connectivity, with further integrations expected before year-end. A separate trial with authorities is examining data federation and cross-border credential validation. LEDGID is also working with BIMCO on standards and best practice, IDsure on verification, FrontM on connectivity and The Mission to Seafarers on welfare and engagement. The company launched at Posidonia in June and became the first signatory to the BIMCO Seafarer Digital Certificate Charter.
